Food
South Africa is an international city, and owing to its past, being in contact with different cultures, local cuisine varies from barbequed sosaties or a sweet Malay curry to sweet and sour pork, spaghetti Bolognese, veal schnitzel and Yorkshire pudding. Being on the coast obviously offers you a wide variety of varied seafood, from fish & chips to crayfish (lobster), langoustine and prawns. People here are extremely fond of braaiing (barbecuing), and boerewors (sausage), kebabs and lamb-chops, so you are bound to find them on almost every menu.

Many foreign restaurants cater to the ethnic population and adventurous locals and visitors so cultural cuisine’s, mostly from Europe and Asia can be found aplenty.

Wine production has been popular since Jan van Riebeeck’s first vineyard was planted at Bishop’s court. The vineyards of Constantia, and Stellenbosch, Paarl, Somerset West and Franschhoek produce some of the best wines in the world, so don’t forget to pack some to take home.
